While creating launch templates for Auto scaling groups, currently you have to provide the exact size of root volume as per the ami selected. Also, you need to select the name of the root volume accordingly. Else, the autoscaling group will fail with a cryptic 700 error.  We are working to fix this issue so that it is picked up automatically.
